What else can we say about QR codes?

QR codes are popping up everywhere, but they’re not all the typical black and white graphics we’ve become used to seeing. Designers and artists are toying with graphics and improving the aesthetics. Here are 5 of our favorite visually entertaining alterations:

1. Arranging real items into a scannable QR code: The New York Times made a code from balloons and Sinap Company made a life size code out of sand!

2. Combining multiple codes: SET made this “Help Japan” message.

3. Art integration: Virginia Museum of Fine Arts created their own masterpiece and Illustrator, Yiying Lu used codes in her drawings.

4. A code within a code: made by Burtonwood & Holmes.

5. Cutouts that still scan: this QR cutout made Tom Wyatt’s business card stand out.

Have you seen any unique QR codes? Let us know; we would love to hear!
